Pairing Wine With Thanksgiving Dinner, Part Two

Eddyline restaurant and brewery is a perfect example of a Colorado brew pub serving great craft beer. Located in Buena Vista, Co. nestled in the mountains around some of the best kayaking spots Colorado has to offer, they are one of the few destination spots for great craft beer in the Rockies. Not only can you come in and enjoy some great wood fire pizza but they are serving some of the best craft beer any brew pub in Colorado has to offer.

Sauvignon Blanc (or Fume Blanc) enjoys the long, cool growing season. Cool means a great crisp flavor and long allows for full mature fruit. The prices for Fume Blanc from the Rafting Tara Valley tend to run in the $10 to $30 range with the average cost in the teens.

The Commission hosted many wine tasting events for both the trade and the public. One of the events open to the public was a walk-around tasting held at Binny’s South Loop location at 1132 S. Jefferson, one of Binny’s newer locations (complete with lounge stocked with a full bar). Over a dozen wineries were on hand, pouring samples from their portfolios. The task at hand? To find a handful of wines to tote to BYOBs for the near future. Of particular interest are wines to bring to BBQ BYOBs and summery wines that pair well with a wide variety of cuisines. I’m always on the outlook for wines that are versatile, food-friendly, and, above all, “value wines,” or exceptional wines available at low price points (read: $20 and below).

The Chardonnay is a pale to straw yellow white wine. The flavor can vary from semi sweet to sour. White wines are best served with meals that consist of low fat poultry, seafood, red meat and cheeses.

White ZinfandelA newcomer to the wine industry, it is very popular with new wine drinkers because of it’s sweetness and ease of taste. Although labeled as a white wine, color is pale-rose and tends to have citrus and lights flavors. The wine is delicious with light sauces and pasta, fish, pork and other light meals.
